Does the black wireless controller of Xbox 360 Elite work on Xbox 360 Premium?

I bought Xbox 360 Premium Console a week ago or so and I got a black wireless controller (apparently regarded as controller for elite edition) free with it. But when I tried to use it on my premium console it didn’t work.
Do these black controllers work on Xbox Premium consoles?
Edit: sorry but how do you sync it?

Did you sync it correctly. The black controllers should work with all 360s.

To sync, there’s a little circular button between the shoulder buttons. It has this ))) symbol. Press it and then press the circular button (next to the 2nd controller input) on your 360.
