The Big Failure
What the Xbox 360 has in gaming ability, it lacks in cooling efficiency. The system in place simply cannot keep up with the demands of the console, and the results can be devastating. When the heat builds up, the poor quality solder used to make the electrical connections between components and motherboard softens and weakens.
Combined with pressure on the motherboard caused by a critical design flaw (the X-clamps, which are still being used) the solder joints can break, forming cold and bridged solder joints. Components effectively are desoldered from the motherboard and the electrical connection is compromised.

This all sounds very dramatic and complex, but it really isn’t. Once understood, the repair is a straightforward process and when you’re familiar with the inner working of the Xbox 360, you’ll be completing a repair within an hour or two and without a great deal of thought.
The acceptable rate for a repair will vary dependent on location, but will most certainly be profitable, given the cost of the materials required is below $1. Here in Australia, repairs can easily cost $100. Imagine repairing just 2-3 console a day. Without working weekends and spending only 5 or so hours a day, you could be making $1,500 a week!
Business is solid, with approximately 1 in every 3 Xbox 360 consoles failing sooner or later. That’s a lot of potential customers, plus there’s always the option to sweeten the deal by offering services such as cooling modifications or custom paint jobs, anything that takes your fancy.
